A Tribute from Fire Engineering

Fallen Heroes: A Tribute from Fire Engineering was published to honor these courageous men and women. This beautifully-bound, 81/2 x 11 keepsake tastefully details the tragic events of the attacks on America. The book includes a photo gallery with biographies of the fallen firefighters, firsthand reports from Ground Zero and the Pentagon, and reactions from around the world. Profits will benefit the Fire Engineering Courage and Valor Foundation. Each year’s income from the Foundation will be awarded to the firefighter (or his or her family) who has exhibited exemplary courage and valor in a rescue operation during the preceding year and in honor of the firefighters who sacrificed their lives on September 11. The Ray Downey Courage and Valor Award will be presented annually at the FDIC Conference and Exhibition in Indianapolis, with the first presentation made during the FDIC April 2002. The award is named after NYC Deputy Chief Ray Downey, who lost his life in the Sept. 11 tragedy. Downey was an author for Fire Engineering Books and an instructor at FDIC.
