The Class A Plus Foam Concentrate by Chemguard is a versatile fire control solution for low-, medium-, and high-expansion applications. Formulated from specialty hydrocarbon surfactants, stabilizers, and solvents, it is highly effective against deep-seated Class A fires such as those involving tires, paper, coal, and structures.
Features
- Superior Wetting and Penetration: It reduces water's surface tension, enhancing wetting and char penetration to control deep-seated fires.
- Extended Drain Time: Increases surface wetting duration, reducing the risk of ignition or re-ignition.
- Dense Foam Blanket: Provides an insulating barrier between fuel and air, suppressing combustible vapors and cooling the fuel.
- High Viscosity: Clings to vertical surfaces for increased protection.
- Brilliant White Foam: Reflects heat effectively.
- Economical: Offers outstanding economy in concentrate storage space, cost, and transport requirements.
Applications
- Designed for Class A fuel fires, including wood, paper, coal, and rubber.
- Effective with aspirating and non-aspirating discharge devices, compressed air foam systems (CAFS), or rotary wing aircraft.
- It may be effective on some contained Class B flammable liquid fires in emergency responses when applied by portable medium—or high-expansion devices.
- Wildland Firefighting: Due to its superior wetting and penetrating characteristics, foam is ideal for use in wildland firefighting. It can be applied from aerial or ground equipment to slow or stop combustion in wildland fires. The foam creates a barrier that helps prevent fire spread and protects vegetation and structures.
Proportioning Rates
- Rotary Wing Aircraft: 0.3% to 0.5%
- Air Aspirating Devices: 0.3% to 0.5%
- Non-Air Aspirating Devices: 0.3% to 0.6%
- Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS): 0.1% to 0.3%
- Low-/Medium-Expansion Handlines: 0.3% to 1.0%
Storage and Handling
- Store in original HDPE pails, drums, or totes.
- Maintain within the recommended temperature range.
- If frozen, thaw gently and re-mix to restore serviceability.
- Factors affecting long-term effectiveness include temperature exposure, storage container characteristics, air exposure, evaporation, dilution, and contamination.
- Consult Johnson Controls Technical Services before mixing with other foam.
